Museum of Applied Arts
Museum of Applied Art and Household of Khorezm is inside a madrassah Kazi-Kalyan and includes works of XVIII-XIX centuries and in some samples of XX century. Khiva guests can see here the products of folk artists who have created wonderful examples of jewellery, carpet weaving, pottery, wood carving and stone, and copper coinage. Collection of women's jewellery attracts by a variety of techniques, typical of Khorezm.

The metal artwork has differentiated by local patterns. Ornaments covered elongated slender kettles (choydishi), trays, jugs for washing , pots for money changers, pencil cases etc. Sometimes patterns included the inscription, often poetic expression. A sample vessel is on display.

In the Museum of Applied Arts, you can get acquainted with the variety of forms of Khorezm ceramics. In the middle of the XIX century it experienced a new flourishing. The exhibition features works by famous artists - usto Allakor, usto Yusupkulol, Iskander Kalantarov et al.

Products are characterized by artistic originality in both the forms and mostly green colours. The painting motifs of ceramics the masters of Khorezm used specific subject images - pots, knives, musical instruments, guns, etc. Khorezm is famous for its carved wood.

The museum presents works of craftsmen of Uzbekistan, woodcarver Ata Palvanov, whose works were exhibited at international exhibitions.
